Lately, my mind seems to have wandered into the Twilight Zone when it comes to the topics I’ve been exploring. Honestly, I think my brain has just been fried, and sometimes it’s nice to let my curiosity roam wherever it wants.

I’ve always had a “tin foil hat” tucked away in my back pocket. That doesn’t mean I believe every claim or conspiracy theory I come across. Far from it. But I am willing to read the evidence, ask questions, and look beyond the immediate dismissals.

One thing history has shown is that not every conspiracy theory remains just a conspiracy theory. Some have eventually been confirmed through government documents, investigations, declassified records, or other credible evidence. Governments, like any large institution, have made mistakes, kept secrets, and even intentionally misled the public at times.

That doesn’t mean every extraordinary claim is true. Most probably aren’t. But it also doesn’t mean every unusual claim deserves to be laughed away without examination.

For me, the interesting part isn’t proving a theory right or wrong. It’s following the evidence wherever it leads, keeping an open mind, and being willing to change my opinion when the facts warrant it. Curiosity and healthy skepticism can exist together, and I think they should.

The one thing I have to remember about my curiosity, though, is the old saying: “Curiosity killed the cat.” Sometimes, what lies down that rabbit hole can be dangerous.

When it comes to Egypt and its famous mega structures, there has always been speculation about their true history. Questions have been asked for generations.

How old are they, really?

How were they built?

Is there more to these structures than what is currently publicly known?

Whether you call them mysteries, unanswered questions, or “tin foil hat” topics, the pyramids have always captured people’s imaginations. Most of the more sensational claims remain unproven, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t legitimate scientific research continuing to uncover new information.

So today, let’s set the wild speculation aside and focus on the Great Pyramid itself. We’ll look at some of the more recent discoveries and scientific findings that have sparked new questions about one of the world’s most iconic mega structures.

In the news lately, we have the following:

The Big Void (Above the Grand Gallery)

1. Nature (Original Scientific Discovery)

This is the paper that announced the discovery.

Discovery of a Big Void in Khufu’s Pyramid by Observation of Cosmic-Ray Muons

Published in Nature (2017)

First major internal discovery in the Great Pyramid since the 19th century.

Detected independently by three different muon imaging technologies, giving researchers high confidence that the void is real.

Estimated minimum length: 30 meters (98+ feet).

Claimed Underground Cylindrical Shafts Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre (2025)

In March 2025, a research team announced that they had identified what they interpreted as eight massive cylindrical shafts extending approximately 648 meters (2,125 feet) beneath the Pyramid of Khafre. According to the researchers, the shafts appear to descend vertically into the bedrock and may connect to larger underground chambers.

If confirmed, the discovery would dramatically change our understanding of the Giza Plateau. However, these findings have not been independently verified and remain highly controversial within the archaeological community.

How were they found?

Reported by the Khafre SAR Project in 2025.

Researchers analyzed the site using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite data combined with proprietary signal-processing techniques.

The team interpreted patterns in the processed data as evidence of:

Eight large vertical cylindrical shafts.

Multiple underground chambers.

A possible interconnected subterranean complex beneath the pyramid.

No physical excavation or direct imaging has confirmed these structures.

Egyptologists, radar specialists, and former Egyptian antiquities officials have challenged both the interpretation of the data and whether the technology can reliably detect structures hundreds of meters underground. As a result, the claims remain unverified.

The two articles discussed here have one thing in common and one important difference. Both findings were based on scientific methods and methodologies. The difference is that one has been accepted by the archaeological community, while the otherThe thing that I find interesting is that both of these findings rely on newer technology in what they report. Both describe features that had never been identified or seriously questioned before. Yet one finding, the Big Void, has been accepted by the archaeological community, while the claimed massive underground shafts have not. But one finding, the Big Voiod is accepted and the huge shafts are not.

The Great Void was discovered using muon tomography, a technique that uses naturally occurring cosmic rays to image the interior of large structures. The claimed underground shafts beneath the Pyramid of Khafre were reported using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite data combined with advanced signal-processing techniques.

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that many new claims about Egypt’s mega structures seem to be met with immediate skepticism. Sometimes that skepticism is justified. Sometimes history has shown that new discoveries take time to gain acceptance. That’s one of the reasons I find these topics interesting enough to follow.

First, it’s important to note that neither of these findings has been physically verified through excavation or direct exploration. In my opinion, that should ultimately be the standard for confirming either discovery. However, one of the reasons the Great Void has been accepted is that its existence has been independently confirmed using multiple scientific methods anI will accept the explanation for the acceptance of the Great Void, but only to a certain degree. Yes, multiple independent scientific methods were used to verify the finding. However, it would not be the first time in history that scientific verification has been influenced, intentionally or unintentionally, by conclusions that had already begun to take shape before the verification process was complete. To be clear, I am not suggesting that happened in this case. I simply believe it is a question worth asking whenever there has been no physical, on-site confirmation of a discovery.

I have to admit that I am not knowledgeable enough to evaluate the technology used for these reported discoveries. However, when I look at the methods involved, both appear to be on the cutting edge of technology, which I fully support. As I began looking into this topic more closely, I also discovered that there is still some debate surrounding the Great Void itself.

The great void in the Great Pyramid is accepted because independent teams verified it using multiple advanced particle physics techniques, specifically cosmic-ray muon radiography. That approach would preserve the integrity of this remarkable historic structure while also helping to prove or disprove what is actually there.

After doing a quick search, I found that it took about one to two years for the findings of the Great Void to gain broad acceptance. At least from my perspective, they do not appear to be receiving the same level of consideration.

Neither finding has been physically verified. Yet one has been accepted, while the other has not.

The Great Void can be reasonably explained within the framework of current archaeological understanding. The reported underground shafts, however, do not fit as easily within that framework.

Am I saying the reported underground shafts are real? No. What I am saying is that the constant pushback from many Egyptologists whenever new questions or possible discoveries are raised has contributed to skepticism about some of their explanations. At times, it seems that ideas which do not fit within the current archaeological understanding are dismissed more quickly, while findings that can be explained within existing theories are more readily accepted.

Ironically, I think that response may help fuel many of the conspiracy theories surrounding the pyramids. People naturally become more skeptical when they feel new ideas are being dismissed too quickly. If you look beyond archaeology, this pattern has appeared in other areas of science throughout history. New ideas are often met with skepticism until enough evidence accumulates to either support or reject them.

If I were to leave you with one final thought, it would be this: Don’t simply accept what the experts tell you. If you have questions, ask them. At the same time, don’t automatically accept every new claim or possible discovery simply because it aligns with what you want to believe. Both positions can be influenced by bias, and both deserve to be questioned. In the end, evidence should always matter more than assumptions.

What can I say?
