That’s me right now as I write this. Sitting in a bar on a 90 degree day with a cold beer in front of me, headphones on, doing the bob and weave to the music. That is what I call the Butt Cheek Buggy.
Why the Butt Cheek Buggy, you ask?
Come on. It should be self explanatory.
You’re in the car. You’re at home. You’re sitting at the bar. The tunes are great. You can’t dance, or maybe you just don’t want to. But you’re still grooving to the music. Your head starts bobbing. Your shoulders start swaying. Maybe your foot is tapping. And somewhere along the way… those butt cheeks start doing the buggy.
We’ve all done it. I just finally gave it a name.
Sure. I kept your voice and humor, but cleaned up the flow and removed the duplicate story.
I don’t care who you are. I don’t care what genre of music you listen to. I don’t care how old you are. We’ve all done it at one time or another. Some of us just do it more often than others.
In my case, I’m an old white man.
And trust me. I CAN’T DANCE.
Know what’s funny as hell about the Butt Cheek Buggy?
Catching someone doing it who has never heard the phrase before and saying, “You’re doing the Butt Cheek Buggy.”
They’ll either burst out laughing… or turn bright red.
Trust me on this.
I was riding with this big mother one day. I was sitting in the back, and he had the radio on. All at once, he started doing the bob and weave. I looked at him and said, “John’s doing the Butt Cheek Buggy.”
That sucker broke out laughing.
He had heard me use the term before, but that was the first time he’d ever been caught doing it.
I have used the term “bob and weave” a couple of times here. You may be wondering why I don’t call jamming to the tunes that.
Easy.
Have one too many beers or shots, then start walking.
Trust me. Bob and Weave is better reserved for that activity when you’re really lit up.
You may have previously wondered if I wasn’t wrapped too tight. If you hadn’t, I’m sure you are now.
Trust me, my mind really does wander into some pretty off-the-wall places some days.
But hey, I have fun.
And I hope you’re having fun right along with me.
So, in closing, I thought I would write about something fun to lead us into the holiday weekend.
So crank the tunes. Have some cold ones. And if you can’t dance for whatever reason, you can always do the Butt Cheek Buggy.
And if you end up doing the Bob and Weave at the end of the day, there’s nothing wrong with that either.
Just be careful. Don’t get hurt. Don’t hurt someone else.
And please… no DUI.
Those suckers are expensive.
